TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani has urged the Indonesian government to consider withdrawing all Indonesian troops serving in Lebanon under a United Nations peacekeeping mission if their safety cannot be guaranteed, following two attacks in South Lebanon that killed three Indonesian soldiers.
“In line with our Constitution, which mandates the protection of the entire nation and all Indonesian citizens, Indonesia should withdraw its troops from the peacekeeping mission,” Muzani said at the MPR complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Muzani said the withdrawal of all Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel assigned to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) should be considered if there is no assurance of their safety. The Gerindra Party politician also voiced concern over the increasingly dangerous conditions in the area where Indonesian troops are stationed in South Lebanon.
Three Indonesian soldiers were killed and five others wounded in two separate attacks targeting UN peacekeepers in South Lebanon.
The first incident occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026, when the UNIFIL headquarters in South Lebanon came under attack amid escalating clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.
The attack killed Private (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon. Three other Indonesian soldiers were injured: Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan.
A day later, on Monday, March 30, another attack struck a UNIFIL convoy carrying Indonesian personnel in South Lebanon. The second assault killed Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan, while injuring First Lieutenant Inf. Sulthan Wirdean Maulana and Praka Deni Rianto.
Muzani expressed the MPR’s condolences over the deaths of the three Indonesian soldiers in Lebanon and condemned what he described as Israel’s actions in causing the deaths and injuries of Indonesian peacekeepers.
“We urge the UN Security Council to immediately conduct an investigation and impose sanctions on Israel,” Muzani said.
He also called on the government to honor the three fallen soldiers and the five wounded personnel involved in the two attacks.
