TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global oil prices rose ahead of US President Donald Trump's deal deadline for Iran to agree to US demands and agree to a ceasefire.
At 06:30 GMT (01:30 p.m. Jakarta time) on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Brent futures rose by 1.5 percent to around US$111.4 (around Rp1.95 million) per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 2.7 percent to US$115.3 per barrel.
Trump had previously stated that if a deal was not reached by that deadline, US forces would launch widespread attacks on civilian targets in Iran.
He also claimed that the US military could "destroy" the entire country overnight.
"The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow [Tuesday] night," he told reporters.
On a fresh threat posted on his Truth Social platform ahead of the looming deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that "a whole civilization will die tonight," adding that he didn't "want that to happen, but it probably will," as quoted from NBC News.
"Now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World," Trump wrote.
Trump set a deadline of 8:00 PM EDT (7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jakarta time) on Tuesday and warned that infrastructure such as bridges and power plants in Iran would be "decimated" if a deal were not reached.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military warned Iranians not to use trains nationwide on Tuesday and to stay away from areas near railway lines.
