TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Russia's Vladimir Putin for consultations over uncertain geopolitical conditions worldwide, at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Monday local time.
"Your Excellency, I also came for consultations because the global geopolitical situation is experiencing rapid developments and changes," said Prabowo as broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel on Monday, April 13, 2026, as quoted from Antara.
Prabowo said the whirlwind geopolitical shifts prompt him to seek inputs from other parties, including Russia, which the president deemed to have a "positive role in addressing" such situations.
According to Prabowo, the consultation is necessary to discuss the path forward while exploring ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
"Therefore, we believe it is highly necessary to consult on how we will face the situation going forward, and especially if possible, continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the economic and energy sectors," Prabowo said.
During the meeting, Prabowo also mentioned that he would be overseeing monetary relations between Indonesia and Russia, which were deemed less than optimal.
Prabowo stated that most of the agreements discussed between Indonesia and Russia several months ago had shown rapid progress, but some still presented room for acceleration.
He also expressed appreciation to the Russian government for its support to Indonesia, including backing its swift accession to the BRICS grouping.
According to Prabowo, Russia has supported Indonesia in several strategic areas critical to national interests.
“In several key areas important to Indonesia, President Putin has provided support for our needs,” he said
During the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
