TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russia and Vietnam officially signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the construction of Vietnam's first nuclear power plant (NPP).
The signing ceremony took place in Moscow on Monday (March 23), following talks between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The agreement was signed by Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia's national nuclear corporation, Rosatom, and Tran Van Son, head of the Vietnamese Government Office.
In talks with Chinh, Mishustin said the project would provide a strong boost to cooperation in related sectors, from high technology to applied research.
The Russian Prime Minister also noted that the agreement between Russian and Vietnamese oil and gas companies could foster joint projects to develop oil and gas fields in both countries. Furthermore, Mishustin encouraged strengthening joint efforts to boost bilateral trade.
