TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Saudi Arabian government has lifted the ban on shrimp exports from Indonesia since May 24, 2026, according to the country's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
"Temporary suspend on Indonesian shrimp exports to Saudi Arabia was imposed because they required Cesium-137-free shrimp products," said the Head of the Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, in a written statement on Friday, May 29, 2026.
The temporary ban on shrimp exports from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia was implemented on September 9, 2025.
Ishartini stated that the Saudi government imposed the moratorium on shrimp imports from Indonesia due to the requirement for Cesium-137 contamination-free shrimp products.
According to Ishartini, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has been working closely with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, and the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh to negotiate with the Saudi government.
Ishartini said that Saudi authorities agreed to lift the moratorium after Indonesia presented the fisheries management and implementation of certification declaring fishery products Cesium-137-free.
Ishartini mentioned that Saudi Arabia is a strategic market for Indonesian fisheries products, both for its citizens' demand and for the annual Hajj and Umrah needs.
She noted that 63 fisheries companies have obtained SFDA (Saudi Food and Drug Authority) permits or registrations to export to Saudi Arabia. Ishartini hopes that lifting the ban on shrimp exports will enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian fisheries products in Saudi Arabia.
