Beyond the issue of impeachment, a number of political opponents have begun to voice their concerns about using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. This discourse was fueled by concerns about the president's mental stability, following the resurfacing of the Greenland acquisition issue and a series of other aggressive behaviors. Shutterstock

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, has extended the postponement of attacks on Iran's energy facilities until April 6, 2026. The policy was announced on Thursday, March 26, and was stated to have been made at the request of the Iranian government amid the ongoing discussions between the two countries.

According to The Hill, Trump stated, "As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time."

He added, "Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well."

Previously, Trump had set an initial pause for five days after threatening to attack Iran's energy facilities. According to reports from CNA, last weekend Trump even gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the oil shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz, with the threat of destroying power plants if not complied with. The deadline has now been extended twice.

US Peace Framework

In a cabinet meeting, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed that the United States had presented a 15-point peace plan framework to Tehran. The proposal was channeled through the Pakistani government, which acted as a mediator.

Witkoff mentioned early indications from Iran to open a dialogue. "We will see where things lead, and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them, other than more death and destruction," he said.

However, Iran stated that they are still reviewing the proposal and emphasized that they are not in direct negotiations with the United States.

Response from Tehran

In the same forum, Trump mentioned that Iran had allowed 10 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a sign of seriousness in the discussions. This route is a strategic point through which approximately 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict has led to an increase in global fuel prices, although the US government has been trying to mitigate its impact.

Meanwhile, according to the news agency Tasnim, Iran has sent an official response to the US proposal through an intermediary. "Iran's response to the 15 points proposed by the US was officially sent last night through intermediaries, and Iran is awaiting the other side's response," the report stated.

Tasnim also reported that Iran has stipulated the cessation of attacks by the United States and Israel, war reparations, and recognition of Iran's sovereignty in the Strait of Hormuz. These requirements indicate that Tehran's position is still far from the framework proposed by Washington.
