TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali in Indonesia was ranked number one as the world's best tourist destination in 2026 in TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best Destinations List. This marks the highest position Bali has ever achieved in the history of TripAdvisor's rankings.
Previously, the Island of the Gods consistently ranked among the world's top 10 destinations, but had never been ranked number one. This achievement confirms that Bali's allure remains strong among global travelers.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed her appreciation for the trust and positive assessments from international travelers, reflected in TripAdvisor reviews and ratings.
"Bali being selected as the world's best tourist destination by TripAdvisor demonstrates that Bali remains a magnet for global tourism," Widiyanti said in a press statement quoted on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Bali Outshines London, Paris, and Rome
This award is compiled based on reviews and ratings from global travelers throughout 2025. Bali surpassed several iconic global destinations in the list, including London (2024 winner), Dubai, Hanoi, Paris, and Rome.
TripAdvisor calls Bali a "living postcard." Tourists can enjoy white sandy beaches, dive coral reefs, and even explore colorful World War II shipwrecks.
On land, Bali offers lush forests, sacred stone temples, and unique interactions with wild monkeys. Ubud is considered an ideal base for enjoying cultural dance performances, participating in batik or silversmith workshops, and even taking yoga classes to refresh the body and mind.
Winning Numerous Prestigious Awards
In addition to being named the World's Best Destination, Bali has also won several other awards, including:
- Ranked First in Best Honeymoon Destinations
- Top 10 Best Cultural Destinations
- Top 10 Best Solo Travel Destinations
- Top 20 Trendiest Cities in the World
This achievement is expected to spur improvements in the quality of tourism services and strengthen the principles of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
"Going forward, we want to ensure that Bali continues to grow as a quality tourism destination, one that benefits local communities, preserves the environment, and inspires the world," said Widiyanti.
Bali's Enduring Appeal
Bali is known as a prime destination thanks to its blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. The arts, traditions, and religious ceremonies are still maintained and preserved by the local community.
The Balinese experience is not just about visuals, but also about meaning. This harmony between nature and culture is what makes Bali a perennial favorite among tourists from all over the world.
