TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Zakat Agency (Baznas) officially operates four school tents for refugee children in the Az-Zawayda area, Central Gaza, Palestine, in response to the destruction of formal education facilities due to the prolonged conflict.
In a statement in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by ANTARA, Baznas Chairperson Sodik Mudjahid stated that the presence of these school tents demonstrates Indonesia's ongoing commitment to supporting the future of Palestine. This step is expected to revitalize children's enthusiasm for learning amidst the difficult situation.
"We understand that education cannot be stopped, even in times of war. These tents are a symbol of hope that Gaza's children will continue to have access to knowledge," said Sodik.
Sodik said the emergency school located near the "Ard Az-Zaitoun" Camp will accommodate around 550 to 600 students, both boys and girls. This facility will also implement a formal education system using an authentic Palestinian curriculum to ensure the quality of learning is maintained.
According to Sodik, In addition to academic courses, this school offers programs such as educational classes and Quran memorization. These programs have attracted around 100 applicants so far. He made sure Baznas would continue overseeing the school's operations so refugees in the Az-Zawayda area and surrounding areas could benefit from it in the long term.
"Operational supervision in the field is carried out directly by a local partner, Darul Quran Alkarim Wassunah, to ensure the smooth distribution of aid and the smooth running of the learning process. This collaborative effort is expected to restore the psychological well-being of Gaza's children through a safe and structured school environment amidst limited facilities and infrastructure," he said.
To maintain learning effectiveness, the teaching and learning schedule is divided into four sessions based on gender and grade level, starting from elementary school to junior high school.
According to him, this distribution was carried out to maximize the capacity of the four tent units available at the refugee location. Therefore, Sodik invited all Indonesian people to join in providing prayers and support to ensure the continuity of education for children in Gaza.
