TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sanctions against sexual harassers on campus grounds hinge on the results of university probe and final decision, according to Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan. The university also decides what punishments are appropriate in online sexual harassment cases, as seen in the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia (UI).
"Sanctions will be imposed by the respective institution after obtaining the investigation report conducted by a task force," said Fauzan when contacted on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, stating that the government fully entrusts sexual harassment case handling to the campus task force.
He also responded to various allegations of sexual violence that have also occurred on several other campuses, such as the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Fauzan expressed concern about the rampant phenomenon of sexual violence in the higher education environment. "Of course, I am concerned about the harassment, even if it is just verbal, against female students," said Fauzan.
According to Fauzan, the ministry has anticipated this by establishing task force responsible for preventing and addressing campus violence.
Meanwhile, the President of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of IPB, Abdan Rofi, said the campus is working closely with its sexual violence task force, but said he couldn't detail the chronology of the incident at present time.
On the other hand, ITB has apologized for the viral song containing elements of sexual harassment towards women. The song titled Erika was performed by Orkes Semi Dangdut (OSD) of the ITB Mining Student Association.
The university said the song does not reflect the values that should be upheld in the campus environment and student organizations. The ITB Mining Student Association also announced that it does not condone any form of action that degrades the dignity of any individual or group.
