TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ATR aircraft manufacturer in Toulouse, France, has addressed the incident involving the Indonesia Air Transport ATR 42-500. The aircraft with the registration PK-THT lost contact while approaching to land at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar, on Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2026.
In a press release published on its official website, ATR expressed deep concern to all parties affected. "ATR has been informed that an accident occurred in Indonesia involving an ATR 42-500," wrote ATR, as quoted on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
ATR also stated its readiness to collaborate with the Indonesian authorities to unveil the cause of the accident. "The ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation led by the Indonesian authorities and the operator," it said.
The ATR 42-500 aircraft was carrying seven crew members and three passengers when it lost contact yesterday afternoon. The flight was bound for Makassar from Yogyakarta.
The crew on board included Captain Andy Dahananto, Co-pilot Farhan Gunawan, Flight Operation Officer Hariadi, Engineers Restu Adi P and Dwi Murdiono, as well as cabin crew members Florencia Lolita and Esther Aprilita S.
Meanwhile, the three passengers were staff members at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries who were conducting air surveillance on marine and fisheries resources in Indonesian waters. The three employees were Ferry Irawan, serving as a Vessel Analyst, Deden Mulyana, a state asset manager, and Yoga Naufal, an aerial photography operator.
On Sunday morning, the body and tail of the aircraft were found on the slopes of Puncak Bulusaraung, on the border of Maros Regency and Pangkep Regency. Andi Sultan, the Head of Operations and Alert of Basarnas Makassar, stated that the main part of the aircraft was first reported by the aircrew of AI-7301 (Boeing 737-200) and H-2213 (Caracal H225M).
Rescuers prepared a climbing route as the primary evacuation for ATR 42-500. The route is deemed the safest and most easily accessible compared to other, closer, but steeper pathways.
Andi Sultan mentioned that the evacuation plan would be carried out after the team reached the coordinates of the aircraft's body and tail.
