TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government allotted a total of 5,750 scholarships from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) this year. This policy is hoped to bolster human resources quality through the expansion of access to higher education with state financing support.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, said LPDP scholarships are a strategic instrument to ensure the competitiveness of Indonesian youth at a global level. Brian mentioned this during the dialogue event between President Prabowo Subianto and academicians at the State Palace on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

"This year, the government has prepared 5,750 LPDP scholarship quotas," said Brian, as quoted from Antara, Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Indonesia graduates around 1.7 million bachelors across various fields of study each year, ranging from science and technology to social sciences. This huge potential requires earnest management to elevate them into the state's major asset amidst global competition.

"We seek to ensure state presence at every step taken by the nation's children who are eager to progress. The LPDP program has strived to generate outstanding talents, and this year, we are targeting 5,750 new scholarship recipients," he said.

The LPDP scholarship quota details for 2026 include 1,000 seats for Garuda scholarships for the bachelor's degree (S1), 4,000 seats for master's and doctoral degrees (S2 and S3), and 750 seats specifically for medical specialist education.

Brian emphasized that the S2 and S3 scholarships will be focused on fields that align with the national development agenda, adjusting the program to match Prabowo's Asta Cita vision.

In addition to LPDP, the government continues to strengthen access to higher education through the Smart Indonesia Card for College program (KIP-K). Currently, more than 1.1 million active students receive KIP-K assistance, covering tuition fees and living expenses. The total budget allocated by the state for this program reaches Rp16 trillion per year.

With the reinforcement of various education assistance schemes, Brian hopes that no Indonesian children have their access to higher education blocked by personal economic conditions going forward.
