TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture will distribute crucial infrastructure aid to schools in the most disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions to support the digitalization process of learning. A total of 5,681 schools will gain access to satellite internet, and 1,625 schools will receive solar panel aid to overcome electricity challenges.
Director General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education, Gogot Suharwoto, mentioned that the ministry's commitment to carrying out an inclusive and fair digitalization program is reflected in its management of the internet and energy distribution. "In the 3T areas, we are very careful. For schools that do not have internet, we propose the provision of satellite internet for 5,681 schools," said Gogot during a meeting with the House of Commission X on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
He explained that the geographic conditions of 3T regions, such as heavy rain, storms, or very remote locations, remain the main challenges in accessing the internet. However, the presence of satellite internet is considered more feasible than conventional cable networks.
On the other hand, the issue of limited electricity is also a primary concern for the government. Therefore, the Education Ministry is preparing solar panel aid for 1,625 schools in 3T areas that are not covered by the electricity network. "So that the availability of electricity can be guaranteed," he said.
This initiative is part of the region-based learning revitalization and digitalization program. Overall, this year, the Education Ministry targets 23,700 schools in 3T areas as recipients of the digitalization program.
This digitalization program is also accompanied by other affirmative policies such as school revitalization, allocation of multi-cost-based operational assistance funds (BOSP), special allocation funds (DAK) for physical purposes, and toy library aid for early childhood education.
Gogot stated that in the school revitalization program, a total of 1,623 schools in the three target regions have been prioritized, including ECE, primary, junior high, and senior high schools, with a special budget allocation of around Rp2 trillion or 15.5% of the total national revitalization funds.
"For example, in Southwest Sumba, we also allocate USB (New School Units) for 11 schools, including 2 located in the area," said Gogot.
With this combination of infrastructure and technology approaches, the Ministry hopes to minimize the educational services gap in the 3T regions so that all Indonesian children have equal access to quality education.
