TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israel has freed the entire delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) from military detention, including nine Indonesians previously held at Ktziot Prison. The volunteers and crew are now in the process of being deported from Israel, according to the media coordinator of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), Harfin Naqsyabandy.
"The deportation process from Israeli territory is underway," said Harfin on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The Global Sumud Flotilla volunteers are being deported through Ramon/Eilat Airport to Istanbul, Turkey.
The humanitarian mission to Gaza involved several delegates from Indonesia who are part of GPCI, including a combination of several humanitarian organizations such as Dompet Dhuafa, Rumah Zakat, Spirit of Aqsa, SMART 171, and journalists from Republika, INews, and Tempo.
Harfin stated that a legal team named Adalah, along with several international diplomatic sources, continues to monitor the deportation process of these activists. They are ensuring that all delegates, including the Indonesian citizens, can safely exit Israeli territory without additional obstacles.
During their detention, several delegates reported to GPCI that they experienced acts of violence and inhumane treatment. Reported forms of mistreatment include physical assault, the use of taser guns, rubber bullets, insults, harassment, and forced painful body positions.
"Some even suffered serious injuries, requiring medical treatment," said Harfin.
The legal team deems the interception of the ship in international waters, the abduction of civilians, arbitrary detention, and alleged violence against humanitarian activists as serious violations of international law.
Despite the delegates being released, Harfin emphasized that the situation remains dynamic. The continued monitoring process through legal, diplomatic, and international support networks for the Flotilla is ensured.
"We keep monitoring to ensure that all delegates, including Indonesian citizens, can arrive safely and in good health," said Harfin.
