TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that May 4 saw the highest number of exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and armed groups in the region since the beginning of the ceasefire, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

They said that Lebanon's Hezbollah movement was also among the groups involved in the exchanges.

"Regarding UNIFIL, our peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon reported that yesterday saw the highest number of exchanges of fire between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and armed groups, including Hezbollah, and it is the highest number in Lebanon since the fighting ceased on April 17," Dujarric told reporters as quoted by Antara.

"The mission recorded 619 launches by the IDF that affected Lebanon, and 30 launches towards Israeli targets," he added.

The spokesman added that the UN urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and uphold the ceasefire.

On April 16, US President Donald Trump announced that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which was later extended for three weeks.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel continued to launch near-daily air and artillery strikes on southern Lebanon. Hezbollah retaliated with attacks on Israeli forces in the border region.
