TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party DPP Daily Chair Sufmi Dasco Ahmad believes that the planned meeting between party chairman President Prabowo Subianto and PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri is nothing out of the ordinary. If the plan materializes, Dasco said, it would be a normal occurrence.
"This is a good thing, which should be done," said Dasco when asked by reporters at the Senayan Parliament Complex on Tuesday, January 14.
Dasco noted that he had not been directly informed by Prabowo regarding the planned meeting with Megawati. According to him, the public should wait for further developments. He also refrained from commenting on speculations surrounding the potential meeting.
When interviewed yesterday, Dasco mentioned that there had been discussions about the planned meeting between Prabowo and Megawati. He stated that the initiative came from various groups within both the Gerindra Party and PDIP.
"That's what I heard. I don't know further about the developments, but it seems to be heading in that direction," said Dasco.
The House of Representatives’ deputy speaker added that if communication between the two parties becomes more frequent and involves higher-level discussions, it is possible the meeting could take place before the 6th PDIP Congress. "It depends on the communication carried out by our colleagues," he said.
Meanwhile, senior PDIP politician Sidarto Danusubroto revealed that someone close to Prabowo had conveyed a message to Megawati through him. He did not deny that the message concerned the possibility of a meeting between the two figures.
Sidarto explained that he relayed the message to Megawati during the celebration of PDIP's 52nd Anniversary on Friday, January 10, 2025. "That's correct, it wasn’t directly from him (Prabowo) but from someone (close to him)," he said when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, January 14.
Talks about a meeting between Prabowo and Megawati have gained momentum following the 2024 Presidential Election. There were earlier rumors that the two would meet before Prabowo's inauguration as president, but the meeting has yet to happen.
