TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto will head to India next week for a state visit as a chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations on January 24-26, 2025. Prabowo is invited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a ministry release.
This will be President Prabowo Subianto's first state visit to India and marks the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-India diplomatic relations.
The visit also aims to boost strategic comprehensive partnership between Indonesia and India, established in 2018.
Prabowo will receive a welcoming ceremony from President Droupadi Murmu at the Indian Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan. On January 25, 2025, Prabowo will hold several bilateral meetings with Modi at Hyderabad House.
Prabowo will also be scheduled to visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Prabowo and Narendra Modi will also witness the exchange of some MoUs between the two governments in various sectors, including health, culture, education, maritime security and safety, and traditional medicines, which aim to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Prabowo will then attend India's 76th Republic Day celebration ceremony as chief guest on the 26th of January.
President Prabowo will be the fourth Indonesian president to be invited as chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations, which is accompanied by the historical participation of 352 Indonesian military personnel in the defile and marching band at the Republic Day parade.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prabowo's visit to India underscores the flourishing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and India, particularly in economic, defence, and maritime affairs since the two countries reached an agreement on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
