TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - French President Emmanuel Macron, who currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the Group of Seven (G7), said on Tuesday that no G7 meeting is scheduled to take place in Paris on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Earlier that day, Trump posted a message on Truth Social purportedly from Macron, proposing holding a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday evening following the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Macron reportedly said he could invite Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia "on the sidelines" of the meeting.
"There is no meeting scheduled. However, France, which holds the chairmanship, is willing to hold it," Macron said, as reported by Sputnik and quoted by Antara on the sidelines of the WEF in Davos, Switzerland.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had not received an invitation to attend the G7 meeting in Paris.
CBS News, citing a White House official, stated that Trump does not plan to travel to Paris.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will not attend the meeting, the Bild newspaper reported, citing sources close to the government. From Davos, Merz reportedly plans to fly to Brussels for an informal European Union summit.
The G7 is an informal forum of the world's seven leading economies: the United States, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Canada.
