2 hours ago 9

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto revoked the permits of 28 companies suspected of causing environmental damage. This damage has worsened the impact of disasters in three regions of Sumatra: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. These 28 companies can no longer operate as before due to the revocation of their permits. The government is also considering the land use scheme for these areas in the future.

Main Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Rosa Vivien Ratnawati stated that these 28 companies were proven to have damaged the environment around them. These permits have been revoked as part of a government policy to restore the environment in those areas. "They have contributed to the disasters that occurred," said Rosa at Plaza Kuningan on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

Regarding the use of the former operational land of these 28 companies, Rosa explained that a decision cannot be made at the moment. She mentioned that the Ministry of Environment is assessing the condition of these lands to determine if they can be utilized or if business activities should be prohibited in these areas.

Out of the 28 companies whose permits were revoked, 22 were involved in business permits to utilize natural forests and plantation forests covering an area of 1,010,592 hectares, while six companies were in the mining, plantation, and business permits to utilize timber forest product (IUPHHK) sectors.
