
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that light rain could potentially hit several major cities in Indonesia on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
BMKG weather forecaster Lintang Alya N. said that the major cities expected to experience light rain are Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangkaraya.
"Then there is the potential for light rain in Gorontalo, Palu, Mamuju, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Ambon," he said, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday.
Lintang added that thunderstorms are possible in Tanjung Pinang, as well as cloudy to thick clouds in the following areas: Banjarmasin, Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, and potential for hazy air in Bandar Lampung.
For eastern Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for moderate rain in Manado.
Additionally, partly cloudy, cloudy, and thickly cloudy skies are possible in Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Jayawijaya, and Merauke. Smoke or fog is also possible in Kendari and Mataram.
He also warned that several combinations of atmospheric dynamics could lead to increased preparedness for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the West Kalimantan region.
