The American rock band My Chemical Romance (MCR) has announced their 2026 Asia tour schedule. This tour marks MCR's comeback to Asia after a hiatus of more than a decade. MCR will kick off the tour in South Korea, then continue to Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, before finally making a stop in Jakarta. My Chemical Romance's arrival in Indonesia is not a solo concert. They are scheduled to perform as one of the acts in the music festival Hammersonic 2026.
About MCR
According to Britannica, MCR is one of the bands that popularized the emo music genre. MCR was formed by vocalist Gerard Way in 2001. The original lineup of MCR consisted of Gerard Way, Mikey Way on bass guitar, Matt Pelissier on drums, and two guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero.
Their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, was released in 2002 through Eyeball Records. A year later, they signed a contract with Reprise Records, paving the way to mainstream popularity.
In 2004, a significant milestone in their career was marked with the album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. This album produced several hit singles such as 'I'm Not Okay (I Promise)', 'Helena', and 'The Ghost of You'. The teenage turmoil-themed lyrics garnered MCR a strong following. The commercial success of the album reached over one million copies sold in the United States.
In 2006, MCR released The Black Parade, a rock opera-style album. Produced by Rob Cavallo, this album strengthened MCR's reputation as a band with bold and theatrical artistic vision.
In 2010, they released Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (2010), an album that depicted a post-apocalyptic society as a satire on consumer culture. Their musical style shifted towards glam rock and power-pop. However, the achievement of this album did not match that of The Black Parade.
In 2013, the band announced their breakup. However, the four core members secretly regrouped in 2017. The reunion performance filled with nostalgia took place in Los Angeles in December 2019, and tickets were immediately sold out. Following that, they continued the tour to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
In 2022, MCR released a new song titled 'Foundations of Decay', marking their return to the music scene after almost a decade.
